Our Approach to Radon Abatement
If radon levels are over 4 pCi/L (picocuries per liter), the Environmental Protection Agency recommends radon mitigation services. If this is the case for your home, we custom design a radon reduction system for your situation:
- We depressurize the soil beneath the structure to prevent radon gas from moving through the house, addressing the stack effect or natural movement of air/radon.
- We drill into the concrete foundation slab, basement floor, or surrounding earth to create a suction point(s) and connect a PVC pipe.
- Radon is vented through a pipe running through a fan in the attic or along the top of the home, expelling the gas outside.
- We use a urethane caulking compound to seal all radon entry points, including cracks, gaps, and openings.
- Our specialist conducts a final system analysis, examining the fan and other key system details to make sure it performs correctly.
- A radon test is performed within 30 days of the system installation to ensure the system is working.

Client contacted us to install a fan and turn the passive depressurization system installed by the builder into an active system. With the fan installed and activated, this inadvertently increased radon levels due to an incorrect installation by the builder. His system was never completed to vent thru the roof and was dead ended in a wall. To resolve this issue, we established a new suction point and integrated it with the existing perforated piping beneath the basement slab. Additionally, we sealed off the previously installed passive vent pipe. As a result, we successfully reduced the radon levels to 1.2 pCi/L or lower.
